PROJECTS GOING ON AT THE MOMENT:

KOSOVO:

In 2005 the “Vriendenkring van de Balkan”, based in Belgium, supported a pilot project Goalball in Kosovo and helped (financial) to organise 2 goalball tournaments.
After organizing the first tournament in January 2005 in Peja, the “Vriendenkring” asked the Flemish league also to support this goalball project with their knowledge. A second tournament was organised on Saturday December 10th 2005 with 9 clubteams from all over Kosovo. Tom Janssens (ex-national player of the Belgian goalball team and member of the “Vriendenkring”) and Walter Tielemans from the Flemish league  (Co-organiser of the European Championships Goalball 2005) went to this tournament to take a look how the organisers managed the project.
Together with the local organisers and the local authorities (Ministry of Sports, The alderman of sports of Peja and the Association of the Blind) they formulated some action points concerning the development of goalball in Kosovo.
Thanks to the financial support of 5000€ (6550US$) of the Minister of Sports of Flanders, the Belgian Paralympic Committee could organise a first seminar for athletes, trainers, referees and officials in Kosovo. This clinic was held in Péja from October 12th till October 16th 2006 with more than 40 participants, which was a great success!

In the mean time (2006) the local authorities started up a Goalball Federation in Kosovo which is recognised and supported by the Ministry of Sports in Kosovo.
Also the ethnic minority of Serbs within Kosovo are interested to take part on the clinic and the goalball competition in Kosovo.
The Kosovarian Goalball Federation will also contact IBSA to get a membership of the international federation and, if possible, to participate in European Championships in the upcoming years.
As national team, Kosovo participated for the first time in history in an international goalball tournament in Albania from December 1st till 4th 2006.
